Nursing
May be for you if…

  • Being part of a health care team is appealing

  • Helping people is fulfilling

  • Creating and carrying out a plan is satisfying

  • Math, science, and verbal skills are strengths

In High School

  • Consider the type of nursing program that is right for you at this time, such as a 4-year college, 2-year college, or local nurses aid training. Talk to your guidance counselor, practicing nurses, and nursing programs of interest.

  • Develop good study habits.

  • Gain a firm footing in science- and math-related courses. Classes that will improve your people skills, such as psychology, communication, and English, are also critical.

  • Search out opportunities to work, volunteer, or shadow in nursing care settings.

In College

  • Work closely with your academic advisor to ensure that you are on track to meet your academic and career goals.

  • Balance pressures of classroom work and clinical experiences.
